Berkeley U11's Slice Through the Swiss 3-0

1 February, 2016

Congratulation Berkeley U11 Boy's soccer team at their amazing win over the weekend at the annual Thaigers charity event hosted by the Swiss international School.
Winning all the games in the qualifying Berkeley ended up playing against the hosts in the final
Bolstered by the large home crowd of over 200 along with drums and Swiss horn accompaniment the home side started well early in the game twice going close to keep Berkeley goalie Simon Rosenlund on his toes.
It didn't last for long and as Berkeley found their feet it was C. Barbour and J. McBirne who started making slicing runs through the Swiss defense.
C.Stricklund in the back performed marvelously pushing through balls forward with more accuracy and precision than a Rolex
It was M.Mellblom that found the most holes in the Swiss defense and scored the opener for Berkeley with a great snap shot from 15 meters out leaving the goalie grazing in the goal mouth.
1-0 at the half to Berkeley
The Swiss came out firing again in the second half and scored 10 seconds after the re-start, but unfortunately they had an extra man on the pitch and the goal was disallowed.
X.York came on and steadied up the midfield with some great tackles and passing.
A. Mebarack scored his first of two with a series of Toblerone triangle passes leaving the opponents stranded and he knocked in the second shortly before the whistle to seal the win and the trophy for Berkeley.
Well done to all the Berkeley community that showed up on the day.
This was a notable victory for our boys and we are all very proud of our skills, perseverance, dexterity and teamwork to lift the cup.
