**Berkeley's Varsity Boys - Lift the GBAC Cup**

23 November, 2016

Saturday the 19th November, 2016 saw the culmination of a long hard basketball season with Satit Prasernmit holding the Greater Bangkok Athletics Conference finals.
The final tournament featured 12 teams in the boy's Junior Varsity & Varsity levels. 6 GBAC schools were represented on the day including:
Anglo Singapore International School
Berkeley International School
Garden International School
New Sathorn International School
Satit Prasernmit IP School
Trinity International School
Over 300 players, parents, and fans were at the event to watch the games unfold. The senior boy's basketball is fast becoming one of the top showcase events for all GBAC athletes. The competition was fierce, but fair play and sportsmanship prevailed throughout the day, All players, coaches and referees are to be congratulated on their professional and exemplary performances.
The reigning champions from the 2015-6 season Trinity International School managed to retain their trophy in the junior varsity level, but were soundly beaten by Berkeley in the varsity final.
Trinity have held the cup at varsity level for the last 2 years and were looking to make it a hat trick of wins before Haas and co, stepped into the picture. Berkeley won the varsity final 30-23 playing a strong defensive game.
Second year varsity coach Kevin Haas was jubilant in victory had this to say after his teams rousing final winning performance, 'Trinity beat us soundly in league play twice at home and away, and we knew we had to change our tactics to win. Trinity, to their credit play some great basketball, but with our hard running and tough inside defense we managed to control the pace of the game and completely shut down their run and gun tactics! They put the press on in the second quarter and that opened up the break for us. All of our team played a steady part in this historical first ever varsity boy's championship win. TC was sensational in the break, scoring baskets and planning the build ups. Yuri was great off the boards at both ends. Gabriel and Kong played vitals roles in scoring key baskets and making great defensive stops. Henri put in a good show as did Dong, Noah and Daniel. A real team effort and an unforgettable, historical win for Berkeley!'
