Berkeley Boys vs the Swiss U11

5 May, 2014

U11 Boys

The game looked to be a good one from the start. Both teams were evenly matched in size and  showing their speed in the warm ups.

The match was broken into 4 quarters of 10 minutes with 8 players on each team. Subs were allowed at the end of each quarter.

Berkeley came out firing from the kick off. 3 runs at goal with some good passing from Jo, Cammo and Melvin had the Swiss on the back foot. All the chances went wide and the Swiss held their line well.

After more intense pressure up front Berkeley’s defense had drifted forward and they were caught on the break twice in quick succession as the Swiss deservedly made the score 2-0 just before the half.

Mark and Cotton made some valuable stops in defense early in the 3rd quarter and Mickey played his part in goal making two good saves to keep the scoreline respectable.

Gap came on and brought some composer back to Berkeley. He put through some good balls to the forwards and the team once again had a run of sustained pressure and a flurry of shots on goal. The resilience of the Swiss defense was to be admired.

With Berkeley needing a goal of it own wide open spaces began to appear at the back and Berkeley were again caught in out defense. The Swiss scored their third after a lovely solo run from their center forward to make it 3-0 going into the final quarter.

Early in the 4th Berkeley were awarded a penalty and hope came back that a comeback was still possible. The shot was of a Roman style and with the keeper well beaten was nailed onto the crossbar. a great sigh went up from the crowd The Swiss regained control and held out for a few more minutes for a well deserved 3-0 victory.
